A workshop designed for aspiring or established pattern designers who want to learn the basics and not-so-basics of grading knit patterns to fit and flatter anyone in our diverse community. Everybody has different proportions and patterns work best with different shapes and fittings.

Grading allows you to transform a one-size-fits-all pattern into one with multiple sizing options. When designing a knit pattern (whether for a sweater or an accessory), we usually start with a sample size and then scale the pattern up or down depending on who it is intended for. Most patterns include increasing sizes, but that's not easy.

Joji will explain in this workshop the process of grading up a pattern by 9 sizes and some considerations to keep in mind. There is a lot to learn about how to make a pattern actually include different sizes. Grading is not difficult if you know how to start and if you follow a system, it's not just taking the sample size and multiplying the numbers by different factors.
