What will happen when Flamenco meets Bellydance? And what if we added Queer? That’s what will happen in SALMATI on 6 of September 2023. The show has the aim of building bridges between queer Arab and all kind of disciplines. 

This month, Salma Zahore invites Flamenco Queer on La Muriel’s stage for the love of art, followed by a tea talk with a special collaboration performance at the end. 

“Flamenco Queer'' was born in October 2019 as a result of the work of London-born guitarist Jero Férec and dancer Rubén Heras from Badalona. Rubén and Jero explore traditional flamenco using identity and inclusion as their starting point. Inspired by the confluence of queer and minority communities with flamenco and drag that took place in the “Raval” and “Poble-Sec'' districts of Barcelona in the early 1900’s “Flamenco Queer” offers a dynamic and aesthetically unique show experience, highlighting the importance of intersectional representation both on and off-stage, giving visibility to the presence and contributions of queer artists in both historical and contemporary flamenco culture.
