Status Quo debutó finalizando la década de los 60 con el rock psicodélico por bandera. Canciones como Pictures of matchstick men marcaron aquella época inicial. Sin embargo, títulos inolvidables para la historia del rock como Whatever you want, In the army now o Down down, son las más recordadas de una banda que siempre hizo caso omiso de las modas que se iban imponiendo en el rockroll.
El grupo que viene al Archipiélago estará liderado por Francis Rossi, cantante y guitarra solista, que es uno de los tres miembros fundadores del proyecto ya que fue él quien creó el grupo en 1962 junto al bajista Alan Lancaster y el batería John Coghlan, que ya no están en el proyecto. Le acompañarán el bajista John Edwards que se incorporó a la formación en 1986; el teclista y guitarrista Andy Bown que es miembro fijo desde el año 1976; y el batería León Cave, el más joven ya que sólo lleva cuatro años en el grupo. Se da la circunstancia de que su anterior guitarrista rítmico, Rick Parritt, falleció el año pasado justo después de la grabación de su último trabajo, Aquostic II: That's a Fact!, álbum que fue grabado con guitarras españolas y seguía una línea ya emprendida en 2014. Pero Status Quo, al que la mayor parte del público asocia con temas comerciales como In The Army Now o Whatever You Want, tiene una historia mucho más compleja e interesante con varios cambios estilísticos a medida que iban evolucionando. Precisamente, tras disolver varias formaciones, la primera grabación del grupo como tal fue el sencillo Pictures of Matchstick Men que logró el séptimo lugar en la lista de singles británicas y alcanzó el puesto 12 en los Estados Unidos.
